Warning to anyone with a 2007-2013 BMW with the N47 diesel engine - check your timing chain!
Mine failed at 85,000 miles with no warning. BMW dealer quoted £3,500 for repair. The chain is at the back of the engine so it's a massive job.
Apparently it's a known issue but BMW won't acknowledge it. If you hear any rattling on cold starts, get it checked immediately.
