Our Verdict
The A4 is Audi's volume seller and a strong alternative to the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class. The B9 (2016+) brought a significant improvement in refinement and technology. Interior quality is best-in-class. Watch for TFSI oil consumption and S-tronic servicing.
Introduction
The Audi A4 has been the default choice for company car drivers and premium saloon buyers for decades. The B8.5 facelift (2012β2015) was solid, while the B9 (2016βpresent) was an entirely new car β lighter, more efficient, and with an interior that embarrassed the competition.
The A4 Avant (estate) is one of the best executive wagons with a cavernous 505-litre boot. The S4 and RS4 Avant are bucket-list performance estates.
With strong depreciation, a 3-year-old A4 with 30,000 miles can be had for around half its list price. Exceptional value for this quality.
